Grandmaster Rodel Dagooc
10. Dan Modern Arnis
About the DAV and Datu Dieter Knüttel from Grandmaster Rodel Dagooc
I have known Datu Dieter Knuettel, Chief Instructor of the DAV (Deutscher Arnis Verband) since 1983, when he started coming to the Philippines to train under the senior masters of Arnis in the Philippines. This best explains why he’s so knowledgeable and versatile with the art. He showed great enthusiasm and commitment to promote and excel in this FMA, that I personally, have a high regard for his abilities and capabilities. His efforts to promote Arnis in his country, Germany, and even in the rest of Europe, is astounding. It really shows his great love for this art. He takes the time and effort to even come back to the Philippines to update his knowledge and skills with the Senior Philippine masters.
Dieter is been an active member of IMAF since he started training with the late Grandmaster Remy Amador Presas, who promoted him to the rank of Datu (there are only 6 datus of Arnis in the world). In the year 2003, Datu Dieter, with the unanimous decision of the different Arnis senior masters in the Philippines, was promoted to the rank of Lakan Pito – 7. degree Blackbelt in Modern Arnis.
Since then, Datu Dieter, as chief instructor of DAV, invites yearly Arnis masters from the Philippines to conduct seminars in Germany and other parts of Europe. And two years ago, I was invited as one of their trainer to the 9. International Modern Arnis Summercamp of the DAV, that was conducted in Osterburg/Germany. The great number of 147 participants shows clearly how this man strives hard to promote Arnis. The recently held February 2007 Arnis seminar in Russia was a great success also.
I have great respect for this man. He’s truly a Filipino warrior by heart. And I’m proud to know him and to be his friend and brother in the art. God bless him.
